Shipping Companies do have a sight of manning the vessels with as a small number of personnel as possible. In accordance with the specifications within Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the companies shall barely be responsible for complying with Minimum Safe Manning so as to protect lives at sea and maintain the safety and security of cargo and passengers as well as protecting the environment.
The Convention of Minimum Safe Manning is regulated for the particular vessel by the Flag State under the scope of SOLAS. The ship prescribed within the Convention shall be fit out with the sufficient number of seafarers of specific qualifications.
In case of absence or expiration of that certificate or the ship not fit out with the sufficient number of seafarers of specific qualifications, that vessel shall not be authorised to leave the port.
