D\u00fcnyadaki ekonomik geli\u015fme ve enerji kullan\u0131m\u0131ndaki art\u0131\u015f sebebiyle, 1930\u2019lardan sonra akaryak\u0131t ta\u015f\u0131mac\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131, d\u00fcnyadaki en \u00f6nemli ta\u015f\u0131mac\u0131l\u0131k halini almas\u0131yla tanker gemilerine duyulan ihtiya\u00e7ta artm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. 1956 y\u0131l\u0131na kadar tanker gemileri, <span style=\"color: #3498db\"><em>S\u00fcvey\u015f Kanal\u0131<\/em><\/span>ndan ge\u00e7ebilecek \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fclerde in\u015fa edilebilmekteydi. O y\u0131llara kadar S\u00fcvey\u015f Kanal\u0131ndan ge\u00e7i\u015f i\u00e7in, <span style=\"color: #3498db\"><em>5000 ton y\u00fck<\/em><\/span> ve <em><span style=\"color: #3498db\">en fazla 7.2 metre<\/span><\/em> drafta m\u00fcsaade ediliyordu. Tanker gemileri de, bu s\u0131n\u0131rlamalara g\u00f6re in\u015fa edilip kullan\u0131l\u0131yordu. <em><span style=\"color: #3498db\">1956<\/span><\/em> y\u0131l\u0131ndan sonra, S\u00fcvey\u015f Kanal\u0131\u2019n\u0131n derinli\u011finin de artt\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131yla ve II.
